Buddy Walk 2018

Support Us

Welcome to the team page for Ryland Z and His Rock Stars!
We are happy you have arrived and hope you will join our team and walk with us in the 2018 Buddy Walk in Cincinnati, the largest walk for Down syndrome in the United States.
Ryland Zander has had a great year. He learned a lot in his Pre-K classroom at his school in the Little Miami school district. And he has been traveling quite a bit: Panama City where he spent hours playing in the sand and getting tackled by the ocean waves; Slovenia where he started making progress in riding a scooter; Budapest where he danced away on a boat cruise along the Danube river; Italy where he slept the entire 30 minute jaunt; and Croatia where he kept a steady diet of yogurt and pizza. Perhaps his favorite thing, however, is the family-dance-parties at our home in Loveland (where he can make about 100 laps of our kitchen...yes, running nonstop). Ryland will have to slow it down a bit for the Buddy Walk but he will be happy to lead the team.
On a sad note, Ryland lost his beloved Pap (grandfather) since the last event. Pap was one of the biggest supporters of Ryland and the Buddy Walk, choosing to walk with the team each year. Pap used to say how much he looked forward to it during the year - he was very proud of Ryland, the event, and all the good it stands for. At the last event, he encouraged the team to look around and take in and appreciate the thousands of people - all there and happy, eager to support a cause for the greater good (he mentioned how the goodness and positive intentions of the people was clear, especially in comparison to being at a pro sporting event and standing there looking around at the thousands of people). And, each year, Pap wanted to do something more to show his support - he mentioned bringing balloons or a sign to carry for Ryland at the 2018 event. Ryland and the team miss him dearly.
So, the Buddy Walk is an important event for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati as it's the largest fundraiser of the year and provides 50% of the resources needed to fulfill its mission. Every day meaningful strides are made to foster inclusion and to celebrate the lives of individuals with Down syndrome.  There is no better place to show your support than downtown Cincinnati at the Buddy Walk.
